Framework for Fellowship Application and Candidate Selection

1. Time frame of fellowship
The fellowship begins on 1st January or 1st July and ends exactly one year later.
2. Qualifications
The applicant should meet the following requirements:
- Completed at least 3 years of training in general ophthalmology
- Participation in teaching, research, presentation or publication
- Have attained sponsorship from either his/her home country or an institution in his/her home country for the clinical fellowship attachment (new guidelines by the Singapore Medical Council)

4. Submission of Applications
- All applications to be submitted to the Deputy Director and Head of Training & Education, NHG Eye Institute for collation.
- They will be forwarded to the relevant subspecialty heads for consideration.
- Subspecialty heads to make interview arrangements with applicants. NHG Eye Institute Training Executive will assist in making these arrangements.
- Names of selected applicants to be submitted to the Deputy Director and Head of Education & Training, NHG Eye Institute for collation no later than 30 April (for January intake) and 31 October (for July intake).
- The collated names will be presented to the NHG Eye Institute Board in the May Board Meeting (for January intake) and November Board Meeting (for July intake) for approval.
- Letters of notification of acceptance for fellowship will be sent out in May – June (for January intake) and November – December (for July intake) so as to give adequate time for preparation for commencement of fellowship in January or July the following year.
- Successful applicants will be required to submit the SMC Application Form for Medical Registration and any other required documents as required by SMC within 3 months from the date of the notification letter; and fulfil any further administrative processes as required. Failure to do so may result in the delay of their fellowship commencement date.
